If you’re looking for somewhere to explore this weekend, why not head to Watton at Stone? Admire the glorious scenery on a stroll through the countryside on one of our two recommended walks. One is family and buggy friendly and one a little bit longer, starting at Stapleford with Watton at its half way point for some refreshments.
Head for a walk
Circular walk – buggy suitable – approx. 2 miles
- Start at St Andrew and St Mary’s Church. Walk up the slope and right onto Church Lane.
- After a few hundred metres, you’ll cross a railway bridge, from here follow the lane past Watkins Farm to a larger farmhouse. Head left onto a track and up towards some woods towards Perrywood Farm and Perrywood Lane.
- If you’re looking for a slightly longer walk, head to the right which will lead to Bramfield Woods, a great place to explore.
- For both the longer and shorter walk, head back along Perrywood Lane towards the village and cross over the railway line back down into the village.
For a slightly longer walk, follow the Stapleford Loop walk 4.6m on Hertfordshire Walker, and stop half way at Watton at Stone for refreshments.
- Be prepared for the Great British weather – some paths may be particularly muddy after heavy rain
- Do check for opening times and any parking restrictions
Tea and cake?
Enjoy a lunchtime coffee with artisan cakes and speciality sourdough bread at Crumbs Bakery and Café. The Bull pub is family and dog friendly or try the George & Dragon which is under new ownership and has a dog friendly lounge and bar.
